Gastronomy: it's about people and food

Start your days in the Tamar Valley with a visit to one of the many cafes spotted along the river. The Cabin Coffee Co has locations in Legana and Exeter for your convenience. The Rivergrass Cafe at Gravelly Beach and Moon Lily Kitchen and Cakes in Beaconsfield are also sure to please. If casual dining featuring an impeccable selection of wine is what you’re looking for, the Tamar Valley Wine Centre is your place. For an extraordinary dinner, Timbre Kitchen at Velo wines is a popular choice among visitors and locals.

From gourmet outlets, wholesalers and farm producers with retail shop fronts, the Tamar Valley comprises of over 60 food operators. To make life even easier there is a range including bakeries, cafes, restaurants, breweries, distilleries and cellar doors that offer Tasmania’s best produce. Ask the chef and they’ll tell you exactly where the food was sourced from and the hospitality’s never warmer than at the farm gates of Tasmania’s producers. One of the joys of travelling in Tasmania is not just the chance to taste produce straight from the farm and ocean, but the ease of meeting the makers.

The Tamar Valley do the finer things well- escargot, feijoas, abalone, honey, cherries, pork, salmon, olive oil, black truffles and Arneis are all part of our trail, we won’t judge if you don’t know what some of those are yet! You can even pat the dog who locates the truffles, have a taste of the ‘trufferies’ home made ice-cream, infused with black truffles.

For those who have flexibility with dates, the annual agriCULTURED cool season event allows you to discover a world where innovation meets tradition, and sustainability mingles with heritage. Pop over and explore the program to find out more - agriCULTURED program
