Experience Tasmania’s oldest wine region

The Tamar Valley, is a place where exceptional wine is nurtured out of passion and a dedication to quality. Our wines are like our friends. They are an interesting, lively and endearing bunch of characters.

As you drive downstream from Launceston, the meandering roads along the banks of kanamaluka / the Tamar River will take you past cellar doors, berry farms and orchards snuggled side-by-side. On the eastern side of the river you will find the vineyards continue to for a round trip where elevation coupled with fresh sea breezes mean ideal conditions for making some of the world’s most famous sparkling wine, paired perfectly with a seared scallop or two plucked from the ocean just to the north.

The Tamar Valley, introduces you to over 30 vineyards and other producers including beer and cider, and all of them are ready for your appreciation or indulgence as it may be. What’s different in the valley is that you can open a conversation with the producers and makers as you roam the property and take in the scenery. To plan further afield on your drinking journey, visit Wine Tasmania.

Unlike some of the larger Australian wine regions, most of our vineyards are boutique, which means you are very likely to be meeting the people behind the wine, and hearing stories straight from the source.
